Dancing Ledge
Today we walked a section of the coastal path near Worth Matravers. We dropped down to the coast at a place called Dancing Ledge. Apparently, they used to load Purbeck Stone onto boats at these and other ledges along this stretch of the coast. It must have been a dangerous operation at the best of times. You get a bit of an idea of the ledges of rock in this photo, but in fact there are about 3 more ledges just out to sea. There have been a lot of landslips on cliffs recently, (including a massive landslip very near here, at Kimmeridge, just a few weeks ago). There are signs at Dancing Ledge warning against going near the cliffs - but that didn't stop a few climbers from trying their luck on the overhanging cliffs behind where I took this photo, and it didn't actually stop us going to look at the ledges either. They were well worth a visit.
