The annual gas service was successfully carried out, lunch was had and then off we didst set. On an epic jaunt. In pursuit of 3 points at Borough Briggs, home of Elgin City. The beloved Binos were there on league duty, it was the school holidays, the tree was up, presents were wrapped, so hell, let's take ourselves off to Moray and check it out. (Ground #27 on our quest to get around all 42 Scottish league grounds. Elgin is the most northerly but curiously not the furthest away up there)
Predictably the roads were heaving. The Friday before Christmas, one of the Ugly Sisters was at Ross County so progress was steady rather than spectacular.
At 4, stopped in at Bruar, I had a mini migraine, the boys spent a small fortune on chocolates for their mother, and as dark grey continued into absolute blackness, we continued onwards to Aviemore and another 40 miles of distilleries to Elgin.
CJs Plaice provided what trip advisor claimed were Moray's best fish and chips but sadly we failed to notice they were also offering battered pigs in blankets (50p each) until we were leaving. Bah.
No matter. Along with 17 other hardy Stirling souls, took our place on the terraces. 3 degrees and a cold easterly wind blowing in off the North Sea. Brrrr
The Binos twitter feed went something like
1945. Underway at Borough Briggs
2014 29 mins. I've not fallen asleep. There's nothing to report yet.
2016 31 mins FOOTBALL HAS BROKEN OUT. MCLEAN HEADS STIRLING AHEAD!!!!!!
The goal seemed to spark a rusty Stirling into action and with bovrils to warm hands we managed to nab a trolley shot as we made our way to the other end for the 2nd half.
Kai worked his magic shortly after half time and the result was never in doubt when Draper hauled down Speedy and Elgin went down to 10 men.
Credit to Elgin as they nicked a penalty back, but the threat of a 4-1 win was there but ultimately chances went a begging and a win was secured. Not a bad first visit to Elgin City.
Just the small matter of a 3.5 hour drive home, dodging f*ckwit Union Bears who were returning sooth after mauling the footballing giants of Ross County 1-0.
