So, it looks like my suspicions were correct! I bumped into a fellow dog walker who was complaining about the tree felling and she had asked them why they were cutting down more trees. They didn’t make their quota in the previous felling in March/April.

The community woodland trust “sold” the trees, not the land, to the tree felling company as that was the only way the trust could afford to deal with the diseased trees and I knew about this. What I didn’t know and what they are clearly not telling people, is that the tree felling company therefore didn’t make enough money on the trees they felled in the Spring so they are cutting down more. And this time they are creating numerous tracks with the heavy machine. It’s not as pleasant to walk in our woods any more. :(
