Blow Me Down!

What do you do when you find an ancient (1989) tin of treacle at the back of the cupboard and it has blown?

Do you put it straight in the bin, concerned that it might explode when incinerated or, to recycle the metal only, rinse it out first?

Take my advice, do not attempt to open the tin unless you are wearing body armour and safety goggles - a motorcycle helmet might suffice.

When I prised open the cap it blew off with an impressive pop, flew past my face (fortunately barely touching my cheek), spraying a light trail of treacle over the cupboard door.

The contents appear to be perfectly edible but I do have a newer tin in the pantry, so it has been washed out and placed in the recycling bin.
