Pepe Para Riki …

….. or Common Copper Butterfly. This is a native New Zealand butterfly, only living for 1-2 weeks.
There are many local variations of the Common Copper. This one may be a variation of the Mountain Variation Female, but is more likely to be a Lowland South Island Male, as the colour is right. Confused? I am somewhat too.
But I was delighted to capture this little beauty, especially with my iPhone!

We’ve had a very hot and humid day but the promised thunder & lightning didn’t materialise, just the towering massive clouds. They were impressive.
