Shortest Day

I visited my friend L in Gosport today. She lives very close to St George Barracks. The Barracks were built between 1856 and 1859. They were first occupied by the 86th (Royal County Down) Regiment of Foot. During WW2 they were used by the Navy as a recruitment training centre and subsequently occupied by a tank regiment and a Landing Craft Support Regiment. The Barracks continued in MOD - civilian - use from 1968 when they were handed back to the Crown Estate. The lines around the arches of the Gatehouse are Christmas lights which were all lit when I passed on my way home.
So, it's the shortest day today. I don't want to wish my life away but I can't wait for the lighter evenings, partly because I really don't like driving in the dark!
