“Celestial Holiday”

Celestial Holiday is the name for this year’s Christmas display at Krohn Conservatory in Eden Park down in Cincinnati. The model buildings shown in my collage, all Cincinnati landmarks, are all made from natural materials by a local company across the river in Alexandria Kentucky. Applied Imagination was founded in 1991 by Paul G. Busse, the coming together of his architectural and landscaping training and love of model trails. The company has displays around the country, some seasonal, some permanent, for example Biltmore Estate North Carolina, Chicago Botanic Gardens, New York Botanic Gardens, and United States Botanic Garden, Washington D.C. The Cincinnati landmarks shown in my blip are, left column top to bottom, Union Terminal building, originally a railway station, now a museum centre, the Proctor and Gamble towers, Great American Tower and Music Hall, right hand column Cincinnati Observatory and the Mount Adams area, with its former incline railway. It’s a marvelous display, with a model railway going all around and crossing over people on two model bridges, the Roebling suspension bridge and the Daniel Beard bridge, all accented by poinsettias of various colours, and other plants. The buildings appear each year, often with the addition of a new one, but each year they are differently arranged, so it’s a holiday tradition for us. We may well go back with the family when they’re here, but we’re members and have guest passes, so it won’t cost us any more, and I never tire of seeing it, admiring all the tiny details!
