Everyday I Write The Book

Its chaos out there

Today was chaotic on just about every level. We were going shopping early; then we weren't going shopping; then we ended up going later than intended; then we stopped the car halfway to the shops and had a debate about going home. We were having an evening of drinks and party food on Christmas Eve; then we  weren't; then we were but not on Christmas Eve itself. We were attending the staff Christmas function virtually; then we jumped in the car and went to see everyone in person. We weren't going to stay until the end then we did stay until the end. I got a hug from the Chief Exec, a handshake from the Chairman and a vegan cream tea. We were going to do more shopping in Guildford then we weren't then TSM did and I came home. The coat rack fell off the wall, the untidy elves trashed the kitchen, then we decided to have all the neighbours 'round for drinks on Thursday and had to do invites. Then we realised we hadn't changed the sheets, and there were clothes to put away. And somewhere along the line I decided it would be a good idea to hire an actor to help with my podcast. Complete exhausting chaos. On the plus side I drove in to two full car parks today and someone vacated a space on both occasions just as I drove up. So at least the parking fairies were on my side.

The local NHS however is not in a good place. Things that should be empty are full and things that there should be plenty of are in short supply. Lots of people didn't make the year end staff event because they were busy trying to keep the show on the road. If you want to get the picture in forensic detail read The Secret Consultant in today's Guardian. That's how it is.

It's chaos out there.
