André Rieu in concert
What a great day we had today!
A full busy day, but a great day.
We left Delfzijl around 9:30, after we picked up my mother, and arrived at the other side of the country, in Maastricht at 13:10 after a smooth ride.
We then were directed to a parking (P34) where shuttle buses were waiting to transport us to the MECC. Perfectly organized.
Once inside we were submerged into the Christmas atmosphere. We had a tea and Limburgse vlaai and soon we entered Rieu’s beautiful winter palace. The atmosphere was fantastic already.
At 15:00 the show started and lasted until after 18:00. We all enjoyed it very much. My mom even stood up when the audience got on their feet; I supported her every once in a while, but it was hard to hold her arm because the clapping just didn’t stop. During ‘Can’t help falling in love’ I saw her swallow some tears away, and that gave me a hard but beautiful moment as well.
The same thing happened a few months ago when we were in the cinema together. There’s something about that song that gets to her.
Then, when the show was over, reality came back in very disturbing weather reports. The whole country was in alarm code Orange because of expected ice rain and very slippery roads. It was advised not to go outside.
And we had to cross the country again…
While getting to the shuttle bus and carpark again, the weather was still dry.
In the car we discussed what to do. Should we wait or go and try to stay ahead of the weather.
I opted for that, not knowing exactly how far the bad weather had already moved.
Let’s go north right now, and hope for the best. Only 383 kilometers to go.
I managed to stay ahead of the weather, although I had to disobey some speed limits every now and then. Near Zwolle we experienced some rain, but luckily soon after we passed Zwolle the route bended to the east a bit, and the rain stopped again.
At 22:34 I lifted my right foot and we safely stopped at my mothers place. She was exhausted but very happy to have been with us and André the whole day.
Soon after that we were home again.
The counting down to the next concert already started. Next July we'll be back on the Vrijthof, for an open air concert.
