Skopje, Macedonia
What an amazing day we've had. First we went shopping in the Mall of Sofia in Bulgaria. The Mistress knew of an artist who had a shop there so we checked it out. We bought lots of presents.
We then drove to Kyustendil, which was on the way to Skopje. On the way we visited another monastery that was signposted,. When we saw the sign we decided to explore. It was very small in comparison to Rila, but still beautiful, and very rare frescos painted on the church dating back to medieval times.
Kyustendil was interesting in the fact there were Roman ruins - and an old Roman spa, still in use today although it was now concrete pools!
We then drove over the border into beautiful Macedonia and headed to the City of Skopje. We stopped at the border shop to get rid of the rest of our Bulgarian Lev and bought heaps of stuff for the six euros we had left - Beer, icecreams, chocolate, Beer is cheaper than water here!
Our apartment is large, roomy, and luxurious, considering we are only paying 40 euros for it, for one night. Then we headed out to explore the amazing old buildings, including this one.
We found a supermarket and paid for two bags of groceries - which included dinner for 3 and breafkast for 3 - for a whole 6 euros. Then took a taxi back to the apartment for less than 2 euros. I could live here!
Tomorrow we head back to Greece via Lake Ohrid in Macedonia which is meant to be beautiful, and also a National Park in Greece.
The travel is over half way now. The Mistress is tossing up the idea of trying to change her ticket to stay in Europe another week as there's a chance to go to Spain.
