Patient Ear
Black's Picturesque Tourist and Road and Railway Guide Book through England and Wales. Published in 1862.
I can make a guess as to which of my several times great grandparents this book originally belonged to, because the others wouldn't have had the means to go gallivanting down to England - possibly a few times at that because the book is well worn, with the cover virtually detached from the pages. Consequently, revealed to me now but not to them is a strip of sheet music, a snippet from an opera by Stephen Storace (1762-1796):
To wisdom lend, a patient Ear, attend at_tend no danger fear,
Ru_pee To_man Ze_quin Denear Rasbets__ki Ze_leaf, with joy and wonder
