Snow People

So I was hanging out around the back of the room during a staff celebration in the school library (near the food, of course), and honestly took a photo of these figures because I found them somewhat creepy. After messing around with various surrealistic treatments, I decided not to subject the blipfoto community to the darker side of my sense of humor, and decided to go with this image right here.

The celebration was a combined baby shower for several coworkers, which is a nice thing in a place filled with people who care about children. Reflecting now on my mixed feelings about the event, however, I realize that perhaps is was no surprise that I gravitated to these odd creatures in the back corner. In the midst of so much optimism it was hard for me to ignore a sort of shadow lingering inside, a recognition that there is so much about birth and childhood that is fraught and uncertain. I get a nervous sort of feeling in such settings.

Or maybe it's just the time of year and I've got too much Coventry Carol on my mind.
