Fine winter dining,

The snow arrived as forecast. We woke up to a good covering of snow and the birds were waiting for food and water at first light. Last week I added plastic netting to the bird table to keep the pigeons and jackdaws out. I was very pleased to see that this robin is using it regularly, as are some sparrows and blue tits.  A small flock of starlings reached in from the outside to get  to the food but couldn't scoff the lot  as they were doing before. This blackbird came to within a couple of feet while I was organising the water. He was rewarded with a helping of dried mealworms which went down well. Later the snow turned to rain and I hope it doesn't freeze overnight.
