Train Strike
I miss the morning hooter
of the seven forty train
it normally wakes me up
but they’re on strike again.
Later, me ‘n’ dog went up the lane
and over the level crossing
the signals were horizontal
the tracks white with frosting.
it’s normally such a busy line
Through cities, villages and towns.
I hope that soon when I lie in bed
I’ll hear that hooter sound.

It was icier than ever up the lane and I had to be very careful.
It did seem very quiet without the morning trains rattling past.
I caught the bus into Skipton this morning to get some Lemsips, Olbas oil and some other things we needed. Frank is coughing like mad and his nose all bunged up he’s felt shivery then hot but he tested negative for Covid.
We were meant to be going up to Anna’s for the night to see her in the village pantomime but Frank couldn’t have driven all that way to Moniaive.
Anyway she said her water pipes were all frozen and the heating was off so not a good idea to go there anyway.
I posted two parcels off but who knows whether they’ll arrive in time for Christmas or not.
If Frank feels a bit better tomorrow he wants to drive up to Sabrina’s.
We’ll see. As long as we can go up there to collect Millie the dog before they fly to Spain on Wednesday it’s OK.
Goodnight :-) X
