Culter Fell

As the forecast was for a sunny, cold day we decided to go down to Broughton and bag a Donald, a Donald Top and revisit the Graham of Culter Fell. It was frosty but not too cold in town (-4) but as we drove south it was particularly cold in the bottom of the glens and at Broughton it was -14 with all the trees covered in thick frost. We left the car with the temperature at -9.5 and climbed up Chapelgill Hill where I suspect it was less cold but there was a biting wind so it felt very cold. We then went out to Cardon Hill before going to Culter Fell. It remained cold and clear with views to the Lakes and the Highlands. Back at the car it was -10 but calm so it didn’t feel at all cold. The snow was very light and we kept completely dry shoes and boots. We then went Turfing in Edinburgh where it was only -2 but the air was much less dry and it felt way colder. The blip is a collage of the view to Green Lowther from Culter Fell in the afternoon, the view towards Broad Law from Chapelgill Hill and the mist rising from the relatively warm water of the Tarth Water near Blyth Bridge.
