Dash and Splash...

The last event on the Brisbane Road Runners Club is always the 5km Dash and meter Splash (1 lap of the pool from deep end to shallow end) keeping in mind that there's lots of lets say mature people participating and running is all they know... Only 1 rule in the Splash - get to the opposite end as quickly and however you can... The Splash is always the funniest part of the morning... This group often add new stroke names every year... After the event the Lions Club serve up breakfast which they prepare while the Dash in being run... The Lions Club do a tremendous job offering assorted juices, a great selection of cut up fruit, they slave of the BBQs to cook up sausages, so much bacon, eggs, grilled tomatoes and there's even a pot of baked beans... This way no member or committee member has to volunteer to cook... Of course we have some volunteer marshalls out on course which is expected but this people have offered (to tell you the truth these people usually DON'T like getting wet) to volunteer... The Lions Club is very happy because they get a lovely donation for their services...
After breakfast there is the awards to be given out and the Prestigious - Commitments Towel - 7 Championship events throughout the year of various distance... Hundreds of participants starts the 1st Championship event (I think there was over 350 at the start of the year) then after each event some runners have dropped out due to injuries, clash of dates with other events, family reasons, illness, Covid-19 has been a shocker... The last Championship event is 5km which every year there's always someone just hobbling around the course just to complete the 5km to many cheers of encouragement just to finish so they get the Commitments Towel... You have to Commit to the 1st Championship event to stand a chance of completing all 7 Championship events, the rest is up in the air till each Championship event is complete and you tick that one off and move on to prepare for the next event... This year only 61 collected their Commitments Towel with Ruben being one of them and this is his 3rd towel so he's getting a nice little collection of bath towels with the BRRC logo on them... A fellow runner was hoping to continue his success but he got Covid-19 during the year so his streak ends on 9 Commitments Towels...
