Feeding the 'ducks'

When our two small grandsons come for a sleepover we go to Mugdock Country Park in the morning to play and to feed the ducks. This morning it was bitterly cold but it never occurred to us that the large pond would be completely frozen over with not a duck in sight. it was soon apparent though that several hungry crows were just as happy to swoop on the bread. They did look comical skating around on the icy surface. We shared the bread with a robin and a couple of dunnocks.

I'm well aware that bread is not the ideal food for ducks and in many parks this is not allowed. There are no signs forbidding it here and I don't believe it is actively discouraged. The RSPB makes it clear that bread isn't ideal and recommend only feeding it in small quantities so that is what we do.
