Timeliness is next to squeeziness

I like to arrive at work on time. But I am not obsessive. 
When I saw the level of overheated distress and aggression inside the carriage, I decided there and then to fish my book back out of the bag and wait for the next train. 
As it turned up a mere four minutes later and 3/4 empty, I congratulated myself for making the right decision. 
I have this tendency to be easily smug.
