Helston Furry Dance
The 8th May is a special day for the people of Helston in Cornwall as it marks Flora Day, otherwise know as the Furry Dance. A long-held tradition it celebrates the arrival of spring with the Helston Town Band leading processions of dancers through the streets and in-and-out of houses and shops. There are street traders, a funfair, public houses that open at 06:30 (yes, in the morning!) and stay open all-day, and other great attractions. In this picture, the Town Band lead the procession up Coinagehall Street and towards the Town Hall to mark the end of the first of four dances held during the day.
