Moon Rise

The full moon rising over the reed-beds at RSPB Leighton Moss not long after sunset.

We had come up for the afternoon to check our caravan lodge would be OK in the coming very cold week. When we visited last Friday we switched everything on. and then made the decision to return home - our stay was all of 15 minutes. In our haste to go we didn’t close everything down properly, so that was today’s job.

Before heading home we visited nearby Leighton Moss. The rising full moon was beautiful to behold. The big mere (not this one) was almost entirely iced over, and whilst it looked a serene scene, at least a couple of swans had got trapped in the forming ice. Beautiful but deadly. There were big flocks of starlings plunging into the reedbeds to roost, always spectacular to watch.

We will be back soon.
