Footbath

The sun and great visibility returned today so it seemed a good opportunity to some coastal walking with views out towards Viöey and the Akranes peninsula. My destination was Grótta Island lighthouse about 8km away, accessible at low tide. The highlight, apart from the stunning scenery along the shore pathway, was this bijou geothermal hot pool. My guess is that it was around a toasty 40 degrees. This is one of the best places to see the Northern Lights in Reykjavik and tonight there is an excellent chance of them appearing. I will not be chasing them, the virtual version I saw in the Perlan will suffice, the extra.
I returned to the city centre via a circular route around the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula and the Bakkatjörn Pond. Lunch/early tea was fish and chips at the toasty Reykjavik Fish Restaurant, amazing, even better the Salt and Vinegar in Shawlands. And then a visit to the Eymundsson bookshop and their excellent café for a Swiss Mocha. Just outside I spotted this rather terrifying  looking Christmas cat. Legend has it that the cat eats those who don’t get new clothes for Christmas. To avoid this fate you should behave well ensuring that at the very least you get some socks.
A great few days in one of my favourite cities.
