Everyday I Write The Book

The cat with the X ray eyes

Dylan went out and came in again so many times today that I wondered at one point if it would be easier to replace the cat flap with a turnstile. After dark the night vision camera lights up his eyes and makes him look distinctly other worldly (as if cats weren’t spectral enough as it is).

I also went in for some ins and outs today in the course of domestic duty. Acutely aware on each occasion that the house was losing heat at a time when we had two “broken” radiators. Fortunately, our local heating engineer dropped by on the fly late afternoon, diagnosed probable crap in the system and advised a way of fixing it. “Thing is, water is lazy” he said “and takes the path of least resistance. If you turn off all the other radiators it will probably force the water through, clear the crap, and get things going again.” And he was right. We are now fully functional again. I pass on this bit of advice as an adjunct to the home-grown remedies described in my entry from two days ago (bleeding and valve tapping). Always satisfying when a solution presents itself that doesn’t cost the earth.

The rest of the day was similarly domestic in tone, apart from the two hours I spent working on my days off (again). The NHS is heading for a difficult winter if what is currently around is anything to go by.
