Burke and Hare Death Masks
Today we took a scenic drive through Glencroe and went to Inveraray. I've been there a number of times, but as it was raining I thought that I'd have a wander around the jail....as you do.
I was really interesting, and whilst there I came across these 'life death' masks of Burke and Hare. I say 'life death' as that is what the sign with the info on called them. I've always known them as death masks. Anyhoo, apparently the museum stumbled across them a few years ago and don't know what they were doing in the jail, but here we have them. Interesting to see what they both looked like, don't you think?
We left Inveraray and traveled on to Oban where I enjoyed a delicious bowl of seafood chowder in The Coaster with a lovely view of the bay. It had stopped raining by now, thankfully!
As a treat, on the way back to Arrochar, the driver dropped us off at The Drovers, a pub built in 1703 and said to be where Rob Roy killed 12 red coats. It's one of the oldest pubs in Scotland and looks as it did then.
Now, I am anticipating some of my scottish blipfriends to dispute some of this info, but I'm only telling what I was told!
Sorry to be behind with you guys, had poor signal up there!
