Island Reach
A cold and damp December morning sees us completing a brisk walk from Llandudno Junction to Conwy and back. Walking along the quay, we come across a small ship called ‘Island Reach’ - though to be honest, it’s the information board alongside that draws our attention. Once a navy supply ship with the more prosaic name of SD Melton, she’s now owned by YWAM (Youth With A Mission) and is in the process of being transformed into a Medical and Humanitarian Support Ship which will be sailed down to Madagascar to serve remote communities on the island.
The whole transformation is being carried out by volunteers, and this is her second visit to Conwy as part of the whole process. More information in the link below.

It seems quite a daunting task - not just the transformation, but the journey she has ahead of her - such a long, long way from the chill of Conwy to the tropical warmth of this island nation off the shores of Africa. But such an amazing and uplifting project.
