Ascension Day 2013

Today is a Public holiday in Belgium and we have also been given Friday off too so we decided to explore a bit more of Belgium and booked a hotel last night at the last minute so we could really enjoy the next two days.

I wanted to show my family the Blubell Forest that I was fortunate enough to visit on Monday, so that was our first stop this morning. Although the bluebells are now past their past it was still pretty spectacular and when the sun went in it was amazing how the colour of the bluebells became more vibrant.
From there we headed to Dinant which is a Walloon City located in the Belgian province of Namur and again is quite a stunning place. It is also the birthplace of Adolphe Sax who developed the Saxophone. The bridge across the river is lined with wonderful colourful statues of Saxophones dedicated to different countries which kept us all entertained. We then stuffed ourselves with a lovely lunch in a traditional Belgian brasserie, and the kids were surprisingly well behaved.
We then headed to Falaën as I had read about some rail bikes that sounded like lots of fun. Myself and hubby cycled while the kids sat on the seat between us giggling and telling us to go faster. The first 3 km were quite hard work as it turned out that we were cycling uphill but at least we worked off some of our lunch. On the way back it was a little busier and there were lots of people around us but it gave me an opportunity to photograph the people in front of us as we must have looked pretty similar to them!

After that it was off to our hotel in Marche-en-Famenne which is a charming little town in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. We found a little restaurant where we opted for savoury and sweet crepes which were a big hit!
I was a little concerned about the sleeping arrangements in our hotel room as the kids had to share a double bed which they've never done before but they were unbelievably cute and excited about it and settled down so quickly. When I went to check on them later my heart filled with love as they were both sound asleep with their arms entwined. I thought about taking a photo but didn't want to disturb the moment so tried to capture it in my heart (a bit slushy, I know!).
