For The Glorious Dead

The Parkgate and Rawmarsh War Memorial

An inscription on the side reads:
The surrounding area is dedicated to the 323 men of Parkgate and Rawmarsh who gave their lives during the First World War (1914-1918) and 70 men who died in World War 2 (1939-45)

Before the current memorial was built, local residents erected their own 'home made' cross, inscribed "In Remembrance of the Glorious Dead 1914-1918" They even had a nearby Horse Trough made as well to commemorate the part played by horses in WWI, during which almost 500,000 horses are believed to have been killed.

You could have gotten this view, with the lovely flowers, but I reckon the composition of the one above is more apt with the Union Jack.

The Fallen (Honour Roll)

This memorial is what you see when you go up Rawmarsh Hill..

The church behind is St Mary the Virgin which has been in town since Norman times (c1127), quite a stately church, but that would be another series.. Hmmm...

Thank you so much everyone for warmly receiving Bloomin' Elliott yesterday! He'd have been chuffed! LOL
Have a great weekend y'all!!!
