Kittiwake

I spent a good hour down on the quayside this morning enjoying the sight and sound of these noisy, annual visitors. Record holders too, it seems; according to a tourist information board at the site, Newcastle's Tyne Bridge colony of kittiwakes is the furthest inland of any in the world. (Presumably the smaller, neighbouring colony on the Baltic Gallery is runner-up, too)

Tried to catch a few in flight, with not too much success. I think there will be another visit soon. In the meantime, I find this image quite riveting.
