Thursday: Through Road

I was back in Belize City today for a conference.  It was a slightly odd event.  It was supposed to start at 0900 - I got there at about 5 to and was pretty much the first to arrive.  People started filtering in over the next forty minutes.  It finally kicked off about 45 minutes late with every session overrunning horribly.  I’d heard a lot about Belizean time and it’s definitely a thing.

I bailed around lunchtime and went for pulled pork sandwiches with Humberto. It’s always quite entertaining.  He doesn’t half spin some yarns about his friends.

This graveyard is on the way to Belize City.  It’s very bizarre as the highway literally cuts right through the middle.  I suspect that the cemetery came first so I’m not sure what they did with all the previous residents when building the road.

Many of you asked yesterday about ‘black dinner’.  I haven’t had it yet but it’s firmly on my list.  It’s a soup with chicken and various spices.  It gets its colour from ‘recado’ a chilli paste that’s cooked until it’s black.  I’ll let you know what it’s like.
