Contrasts
There was hi drama in the air last night. The Bossess was driving home from Christchurch and there was a Southerly front coming from the back, so to bark, and there is a bit of road called the Lindis Pass which gets a bit high and often gets covered in white stuff under these conditions, so The Bossess phones The Boss as she was passing through a place called Omarama which is a 5 dog town on the North side of the pass and the last vestige of cellular coverage to say that she was heading into the pass which was snoless at the moment but if she hadn't contacted him by midnight to come looking. WELL there I was at 11.50pm watching as The Boss started to load up Suzz with chains and ropes and other interesting stuff while remembering where all his serious winter wollies were stored. The tension was noticeable but as zero hour approached the phone rang and a "stand down" was declared. I was of course disappointed as The Boss had pre-loaded a little wooden keg for my collar filled with Coke Z (you surely didn't expect brandy and drink driving?) and was bending some wire for a flashlight (torch) holder so I could be a roving light. Roving...get it? Rover... Oh never mind.
It transpired that The Bossess had arrived at the top to find things a lot worse on the other side and had engaged 4WD and carefully picked her way through a substantial snow storm down roads that didn't look like roads anymore following the lessons taught by The Boss on muddy tracks many years ago. No sudden moves...Steady as she goes. All together 1/3rd....hand on the ejector seat button...Oh there isn't one of those. Well there's a thought for future designs....Right.
Happy ending all round except for Mo (long time friend and dog person) who rang as previously instructed at 8.30 and found a distinct lack of interest.
After all this drama it was the simple blip in the park when the sun came out plan.
Oh and I had to give the keg back.
