Christmas is here
Here’s Martin and I prepared for the next 25 days. Yes, it’s Hallmark watching month. Actually, we may have watched many Hallmark films already.
What makes us love these films is that they are so formulaic, usually consisting of a mixture of the following: handsome man (always Canadian), beautiful woman (mostly Canadian), bakery, toy maker, orphans, Christmas contest, foreclosures of the aforementioned bakery and toy shops, Christmas tree lots … also with a sprinkling of St. Nick, tinsel and glitter and always set in picture perfect locations (mostly filmed in a Canada).
They make us a bit teary and smile at the same time - they are feelgood films, always with a happy ending. It’s what we need during these times, escapism.
After Christmas, the Hallmark channel then returns to its usual fayre of general romance and murder mysteries.
Ho, ho, ho …
