Who could Resist …
… those brown bouquetin eyes? She could, as he continued to “smile” winningly at her, crouching lower and lower so he didn’t look like a threat, she just ambled off (extra). Not today, big boy! The bouquetin rut is under way with lots of approaches towards the females to see if they are ready to breed. The rut period begins at the beginning of December and ends in mid-January. Male and females group together. Fights between males can be spectacular; the echo of the shocks between horns can be heard up to 1 km away! I am always hoping to capture a fight at this time but it is difficult to walk or ski to where the bouquetin/ibex are in the snow.
