... lurking behind some boxed in pipes where the fire has been opened. 

 Pearl, who lived here since the house was built in 1953, had a big leak a few years before she died. You can see the watermark. Not sure I'd like to live with that wallpaper pattern, even before the leak. It's interesting seeing what was before in a house.

I was stripping some wallpaper in the bedroom, ready for the fitters tomorrow. Was thinking just how well it had been done, and decided I'd ask if her, (now our) neighbours knew who did it incase we needed someone in. As I stripped the next piece down, there was the decorators name and date he did it! I've never used a decorator but think I will for the hallway.
