Today had the privilege of visiting a colleague who has twins of 9 months. They are not her own children but she was left to look after them after her sister in law died when they were 2 months old. She already has two children of her own and this has been quite a burden on her family.

Young children need a lot of care and attention and they also require a lot of nutrition and in Malawi if they are not breast fed it is almost impossible for anyone to buy lactogen or milk to feed young babies on. However, my colleague tried her best and the twins are thriving. I took lots of photos today - the twins are both boys and very different in personality. One is loud and boisterous while the other is timid and almost scared. You can instantly tell which one this is!

This is Thokozani and he had just had his porridge so was feeling very happy and I think he was just telling me that he had no problem eating the porridge even though he has no teeth!

I admire my colleague for the strength she has in caring for these children and the love she has for them. I am not sure I could do the same if I was just handed two children of two months old to care for and bring up and become their mother overnight! Of course most people here care for children who are not their own but this is a special case and it was such a privilege to visit them!
