It’s good to be back

Day 2 in London
We checked out of our room after breakfast and safely deposited our bag. We have 9hrs to spend before getting the train home. The tube from Waterloo to Tower Bridge leads us to old haunts. The weather was absolutely beautiful, better than the rain yesterday. A wander round the Hay’s Galleria area and along the riverside, seeing new developments, before sourcing coffee.
I used to visit the Shard but couldn’t remember which floor the restaurant was on. We ended up on the 35th floor and I was able to capture this view. One of many super pictures today.
I’ve checked back on blip and found that our visit on my birthday in 2016 was to the 32nd floor, so have noted it on this page for next time.
The next place to visit was the Fashion and Textile museum, a favourite of mine, to see the Kaffe Fassett exhibition. It’s a small venue but has the most awesome collection of quilts and wall hangings. I do hope that I can go back before the exhibition ends in March.
We then walked back along the South Bank to Waterloo. I wasn’t sure if I could manage all this exercise, but sometimes it is easier to walk directly at ground level, than scuttle along underground tunnels to find a train.
It was 3pm by the time we got back to the UJC, ready to share a sandwich and bowl of chips and have a beer each in the bar. I could have done with a nap by this time, but that wasn’t on the agenda!!!
7pm sees us back at Kings Cross waiting for the train. This is the bit I hate, it’s boring hanging around during rush hour. The new Azuma trains give a smooth ride, but the seats are so uncomfortable. 2hrs was more than enough in a seat without upholstery!!!
We had tickets to return to our village station, but rather than wait about 30 minutes in Lincoln for the connection and have a 15 minute walk home, we got a taxi and were in the house within 15 minutes.
An action packed day, roll on the next trip!!
