Treasured

Many years ago, my mother, who was an avid antique collector, came home bearing these two tousled gentlemen.

She adored them, and displayed them under a glass dome (I removed it in order to avoid distracting reflections in the photograph). They took pride of place in the front parlour, and we children were strictly forbidden to touch them!

Now they live with me, still sobering up under their protective glass dome. I treasure them. I love the woebegone appearance of the fat little man on the left, who has obviously downed far too much alcohol, and is now regretting it, and I love the cheerful, slightly foolish expression of his friend on the right.

Hmm ... now that I think about it, I wonder if they might be related to yesterday's carpenter?
