Muir Of Fowlis Timber Mill

Over the many times we have passed this building I have never stopped to photograph it.

I now have and here it is. Very much a ‘fixer upper’. The building provides more questions than answers. However, Pat mentioned the building to a ‘local worthy historian’.

The mill was a timber mill. It was originally powered by Donkeys walking around in circles. I guess the owner took pity on their plight and they were replaced by a steam engine powered by a wood burning boiler.

That helps to explain the rather large iron gear wheel in the thumbnail.

The mill took in much of the timber from the Craigievar Estate.

Pat is busy working on a portrait of me as I work on this entry. It may become an entry some time in the future.

We are expecting the arrival of Mr and Mrs Dog. They are driving from Edinburgh via Braemar. The journey from Braemar to Ballater will be a slow one driving through thick fog generated by the River Dee.

We have met many friends over the last two days after an absence of three years. We have all changed in appearance quite a bit.
