Look and you will see…
A rainbow… just visible through the glass of the office window.
It was faint but it was there, to be appreciated and admired until it faded away.
It’s said that if you want to see the rainbow you have to put up with the rain. And in that statement is the inference that rain is unpleasant, not to be desired, to be put up with. But what if you have a draught, the plants are dying and there isn’t enough water to drink? Then the rain will be welcome, desired, a delight.
When we try and pay attention to things as they are, they are clouded with these thoughts and preconceptions, instead of truly experiencing them as they are. Rain is rain. What makes it pleasant or unpleasant is often the way the mind perceives it.
Perhaps we need to try and let go of those judgements.. cultivate a beginners mind and experience things as they are, moment by moment.
“May I never miss a sunset or a rainbow, because I'm
looking down.”
