Dryas octopetala, the Mountain Avens, emblem of the Scottish Rock Garden Club.

Having shown Gentiana acaulis, emblem of the England based Alpine Garden Society, it's appropriate that just a few days later this beautiful flower should open.

The Dryas is a common plant on limestone mountains across europe, often forming huge mats. It's not difficult to grow here and can outgrow its allotted space but I can forgive that when the flowers open.

Now to find a picture of the emblem of the North American Rocj Garden Society ......
