A day in Norwich

No lie in for me today, although I did wake before my alarm at 7.25. So I showered etc then took Jon a cup of tea in bed - he brings me one every week day, so weekends it's my turn.

I headed to Norwich, parking at the airport and using the park and ride. Only 3 buses an hour now, which is a lot less than when I used it daily for work. But I only waited 15 minutes and was in Norwich by 9.30. I saw Jane from the bus as she had arrived at Tombland just before me. We met up and went to the refectory area behind the cathedral where we met some of Jane's fellow bell ringers. One of the ladies had arranged for a talk on the cathedral bells, history and other details, by a very knowledgeable lady. I really should have found out more details in order to do her justice. Suffice to say the talk, with photos and even a video of her walk all the way up to the bells in the bell tower, was soooo interesting. I am not a bell ringer so I didn't understand all the terminology, but it was just so interesting. After the talk we were taken through the cathedral library (I'm told it is open 3 days a week to the general public) it runs along the top of the cloisters, then we went down a tiny winding spiral staircase and came out in the middle of the cathedral.

After out talk, we went to St Peter Mancroft where they were selling every charity Christmas card you could think of. Jane buys from here every year and while she chose cards, I read the topical display in one corner about the bells and bell ringing history of this hugely significant church in the city, which dominates the centre of the city. I can't remember any of the facts, other than it was the first church in 1715 or thereabouts to ring a peal. I'll have to Google it to get the info firmly in my brain.

We had lunch in St Stephens church- it really was a day of churches, then shopped for a few hours ending up in Jarrolds. We parted at around 4pm.

I got home at about 5.30. Mollie cooked fajitas for tea. Jon and Henry have been doing house jobs today. Painting mostly. They have been and bought security lights to put up outside, one on our side and one on the front of mums. It is very dark in the lane and on our drives and so will make a big difference for safety and security.

Jon and I nipped out to buy some bits in Tesco as I had a voucher for £6 off a spend of £40. Some beer and chocolate for Christmas. Had hoped to buy a turkey but they were only small.

Back to Strictly and a night of TV.
