Sock it to me

Is what they used to say on the TV programme Laugh in I think it was..
I have Just bought these recently and blipped them after seeing another blip of socks.
That Blipper had added more socks and wondered where they disappear to in the washer ?? 
I 've always wondered that.Often an odd number come out?
The other day hubby was fixing the washer and there was no sign of missing socks.He also said there's no way they could get through the small holes in the drum ???
Then where are they ??
I'll have to get VERA on the case next time she's filming in Whitley Bay ;):)
