It was pitch dark and so I startled a woman with her dog who was preoccupied texting as I passed (she was, not the dog). We ended up chatting ... Nina had lived in the village for 37 years but recently moved to Melmerby with her husband and is loving it there without the constant noise of the A66.

In spite of my prompt response to the request for long out of date assurances we have reverted to radio silence again.
