This is the front page of Life and Work preparing for the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. Because the Lord High Commissioner is - in effect - in the person of the monarch on that occasion, he is accompanied by the Lord Lyon and his court.

They are Her Majesty's Officers of Arms, all of whom are members of the Royal Household. They are at present Rothesay Herald and Snawdoun Herald, and Unicorn Pursuivant, Ormond Pursuivant and Dingwall Pursuivant.

Lot of pomp, eh?
