Excitingly, I visited the railway terminal in Dar es Salaam that serves the TAZARA (Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority). The start of the birthday leave next week will involve a day-long rail journey from eastern to western Tanzania, disembarking before the train continues its journey to Zambia. The plan is to spend a few days exploring the Southern Highlands region.

Tickets were quite efficiently reserved over the phone and then picked up thanks to the helpfulness of a clerk whose name sounded like it might be Mango.
