My wife has become quite the artist since our retirement. She started by creating simple hangings from items we collected on the beach, graduated to more complex hangings involving wire, pottery, and other more exotic materials, and today added painting to her considerable list of skills. She had already covered our interior sconces with a solid coat of rust colored paint last year, but thought they needed a little something else to make them truly unique. Taking a design from one of her Talavera plates, she transferred it to the first of four sconces and got to work with a tiny paintbrush. While her effort would not stand up to close scrutiny (at least according to her critical eye), the finished product makes our home even more Mexican feeling.
