James Watt, Artist

Sea Light and Sky Light

This morning it was a meeting with James Watt to discuss plans for the school workshops and to let him see the Blipfoto journal.

We're going ahead with making particular details of larger works the focus for pupils, drawing their eyes to specific parts of a canvas in the same way that a director draws the eye to parts of a stage or film scene.

This shot is a close up of a small central part of a much larger painting. It hangs in the artist's house, maybe almost two metres by two metres. In keeping with yesterday's focus on puffers, this painting frames two puffers berthed at the James Watt Dock, the Sea Light and the Sky Light.

But going in close on the space between the puffers, your eye is drawn to the East India Harbour and the town of Greenock, with the Greenock Town Hall tower demanding attention.

Interestingly, the area in that middle space is where the Beacon Arts Centre sits now.

As with last week's mural, I will blip the whole painting later but for now I'm enjoying focusing on small parts of larger worlds.

Coming back up from Largs, the wee puffer which I see Pepysman blipped today, was puffing away for all it was worth alongside the car. Serendipity.
