A Post From The North Downs, Thurnham
Yesterday started with a big disappointment. I'd ordered a book on the basis of a fascinating article about the photographer Tom Sandberg. Oh dear, the images in the book were a massive let down. Many were printed way too small or were flat and grey shots of rather boring subject matter. He also seems to have had a penchant for taking lacklustre shots out of aircraft windows. The worst offence though was the quote on the back - "Sandberg offers us attention so scorched of excess that it comes to us as a secular prayer" - sorry but that is an utter load of pretentious rubbish!
Today was much better. We had an early run in the fog along the river and then got back to watch some of the football from yesterday. It was soon time to go and do the food shop for the week but this time there was a prize at the end of it - we'd booked Sunday lunch at The Black Horse at Thurnham. We got there a bit early so took a short walk up a very steep lane and that's where I captured today's image looking down to the valley far below. Luckily, the sun had come out and the landscape looked stunning.
The Black Horse is a lovely atmospheric pub high up on the North Downs which does fantastic roasts. We both picked pork belly with all the trimmings, which included a giant Yorkshire pudding. We had such lovely, relaxing time.
This afternoon was just as relaxing - a good read of the papers and a bit of telly. Then I made the pea and ham soup for tomorrow night's dinner. There's nothing better than coming home on a Monday after a hard day at work and then suddenly remembering you've already made the meal and all it needs is heating up!
