Vexillology
Parkrun lacked lovely Luna this morning, so I was without my canine companion on the finish funnel.
We’ve officially changed to our winter course because the drove is too clarty and slippery now. The winter course means Music Corner is very busy, with people going opposite ways. They’re meant to keep to their left, but runners will insist on cutting corners. The marshalling thereof was reviewed fully and will be improved on next week.
At the finish funnel, one person refused their finish token because they didn’t have a bar code. Doesn’t matter: you’re to take your finish token anyway and put it in the bucket without having it scanned.
I had to chase after a few people who charged straight through the funnel without stopping. The end of the funnel was pretty wide, and I only take up so much space. It’s better when it narrows because it forces runners to slow down. The problem with having runners barge straight through, apart from the fact that they don’t get their finish token so can’t be scanned, is that any runners behind them are left at risk of waiting, getting out of order or wandering off.
The sun came out as I went home afterwards, so I dragged Mr Pandammonium out to Ely (after dragging him to parkrun) to enjoy the beautiful weather. We walked up the river and through the country park, then through town to the West End. On the way back to the train station, we passed the Fountain, which is never open. It was open, so we had a cheeky pint before they closed.
Back at home, I whipped up another cake with a teaspoon of baking powder. The only problem with the cake from yesterday was that it hadn’t quite risen enough. This one is looking better, although the proof will be in the eating.
No one expects to see the flag of the Marshall Islands in Ely, do they?
