Gambel's Quail

I was hoping for a sunrise but when none developed I noticed on a faraway roof the distinctive plume of the Gambel's Quail.

This is the best of the shots that I got - and I feel lucky to have captured one of the speedy little fellows. They don't fly though, just little short flights to get out of the way of oncoming cars, for instance. They are walkers and hoppers. I have no idea how this guy got on the summit of this house.

They're fun and cute how the papa, mama and babies all run along together in a straight line from under one bush to another.

I'd have to say they are one of the most popular critters we have in these parts.
