Thurstons are in town!
I've been watching the fairground being assembled for more than a week now.
The big and exciting stuff began to arrive a day or two ago and this morning I was ready to set off for work early enough to build in some time to take photographs on my inward journey.
At that time in the morning the fairground site is silent and only the geese on the river are making some noise. I took photos of the big wheel and spent at least some of the day considering the investment involved, the constant maintenance, and I finally began to appreciate why a go on a fairground ride costs so much. There's a lot more to it than crossing any one of our National toll-free bridges.
On my way home RW Thurston & sons were working on their big wheel and I stopped again to photograph the lightshow that does its best to simulate fireworks, albeit only in white. I loved the sound of spanners in the darkness.
Cousins SC Thurston & sons had their dodgems already set up, had gone home and turned out their lights. I failed to collect the initials of the fathers of the other Thurston families who run the other rides, but it did feel just like one big happy family.
