Moments in a minor key

RIVER STONES

The roughest stones in rivers wash
In sand and foam and gravel toss
Battered Rolled and harshly pressed
Scraped, scratched, and rubbed against
Tested, challenged, pushed about
Stripped of pride, of fear and doubt
Lost and hurt and sanded clean
Till void of all once thought unclean
We find ourselves yet all alone
Without a love, without a home
Tossed up naked upon the shore
Without a hope, because and for
It's not till polished, brightly sheen
That jewels are pure and clearly seen
